Financial Advice
Bursaries, EMAs, Student Loans and other Awards
Funding and Welfare Staff , Agnes Orr and Ewan MacLeod are available to help you with any issue regarding Bursaries, EMAs, Loans, Grants and Discretionary Funds. Appointments can also be made with a specialist adviser from the GEMAP money advice project.
All application forms are available from the Advice Centre. Payment of all student awards depends on satisfactory course attendance and progress.
All students on full-time FE programmes (National Qualification (NQ/NC); Access; SCE; SVQ/GSVQ; SGA) should complete a BURSARY Application Form. Some students on these courses will be eligible for an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA). Entitlement to an EMA or Bursary will be assessed using information provided in the application.
Eligible students will normally have their course fees paid. Entitlement to support with living costs (maintenance) and travel is means-tested, so depends on household income.
After enrolment, Bursary payments are made every four weeks, directly into your bank account. EMA payments are made every two weeks. All Bursaries are paid subject to good conduct, progress and attendance. If your conduct, attendance or progress is unsatisfactory, payments will stop without notice and you may be asked to refund money already received. Details of conditions for each award will be provided with the Award letter, issued by the College.
Credit Union
In co-operation with Motherwell & District Credit Union, Motherwell College is the first Scottish College to operate a Credit Union for the benefit of all students and staff. Look out for further information on how to save and manage your money with the Credit Union.
