Successful completion of many of our HNC/HND courses, can allow you move on to further studies at university level. In most (but not all) cases, this will mean you will start your course at Motherwell College and complete it at the appropriate partner university.

We are partners with a number of UK universities to enable students from our Higher National courses to move on to 2nd or 3rd year degree courses.

Motherwell College currently offers the following options in the College for degree level study:

B.A. Hospitality Management in conjunction with University of West of Scotland.
B.A. Musical Theatre (Hons) in conjunction with Northumbria University
B.A. Acting (Hons) in conjunction with Northumbria University

We also have a formal agreement with the University of Strathclyde to offer BA/Diploma level progression in Education and Social Services.

Through a formal agreement with The Open University we can offer flexible progression to learners. Students with an HND can count up to 240 points of credit towards the 360 point BA/BSc (Honours) Open degree. Degrees in named subjects are also available.

You can get advice on courses that lead on to university study from our staff in the College Employment Centre.

View our Courses pages for more information on the courses we run at Motherwell College.

Open University College Routes

Motherwell College is working with The Open University(OU) in Scotland to create flexible opportunities for students who wish to progress on a part-time basis from their Higher National study to a degree.

The Open University's BA or BSc (Open) degree allows students to choose from a wide range of OU modules tailored to their personal and vocational needs. This allows students to either build on the subject areas studied in college or provides the flexibility to develop skills and knowledge in other subject areas.

Students with an HND can count up to 240 points of credit transfer towards the OU’s 360 point BA/BSc (Open) with Honours. Similarly, a student with an HNC can count between 95 and 120 points of credit transfer towards the 300 point BA/BSc (Open) or the 360 point BA/BSc (Open) with Honours. Honours degrees in named subjects are also available and further information on credit transfer is available on request.

Progression to the OU's Open degree is available for all HNC and HND courses.
